Many popular registry websites also give you the option of including a charity donation to your gifts. Please contact us at volunteeer@leesburghumanesociety.org if you need assistance in determining the best way to raise funds.

Make a gift in honor or memory of someone special in your life.

Making a gift to support our Mission is a wonderful way to recognize animal lovers in your life for special occasions or in lieu of gifts. In memory gifts are a fitting way to honor the memory of pets or pet lovers that have passed. Your gift will help ensure that we can give even more deserving animals the chance at a loving home. All tributes can be personalized and we will send acknowledgement of your gift to those being honored/memorialized.

Planned Giving

Bequest

A charitable bequest is one of the easiest and most flexible ways you can leave a gift to the Leesburg Humane Society that makes a lasting impact.

How a Bequest works

With the help of an attorney, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to the Leesburg Humane Society as part of your estate plan. This gift can be of cash, stocks, bonds, or real estate.

Types of Bequests

Specific Bequest

A specific bequest involves making a gift of a specific asset such as real estate or a set dollar amount. For example, you may wish to leave your home or $10,000 to the Leesburg Humane Society.

Percentage Bequest

This type of bequest leaves a specific percentage of your overall estate. For example, you may wish to leave 10% of your estate to the Leesburg Humane Society.

Residual Bequest

A residual bequest is made from the balance of an estate after the will or trust has given away each of the specific bequests. For example, you may wish to leave 30% of the residual of your estate to the Leesburg Humane Society.

Contingent Bequest

A contingent bequest is made to charity only if the purpose of the primary bequest cannot be met. For example, you could leave specific property, such as a vacation home, to a relative, but the bequest language could provide that if the relative is not alive at the time of your death, the vacation home will go to the Leesburg Humane Society.

Beneficiary Designation Gifts

Retirement Assets

Donating part or all your unused retirement assets, such as your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), pension, or other tax-deferred plan, is an excellent way to make a gift to the Leesburg Humane Society. A gift of your unused retirement assets helps the Leesburg Humane Society’s work caring for homeless animals.

How to make a gift of retirement assets

To leave your retirement assets to the Leesburg Humane Society, you will need to complete a beneficiary designation form provided by your retirement plan custodian or bank. If you designate the Leesburg Humane Society as beneficiary, we will benefit from the full value of your gift because your retirement assets will not be taxed at your death. Furthermore, your estate will benefit from an estate tax charitable deduction.

Life Insurance Policy Beneficiary

Designate the Leesburg Humane Society as the beneficiary on your Life Insurance Policy.
